We just signed a new contract in December 2006. Now the old landlord sold the flat and new landlord wants us to sign a new contract and increase the rent. Is this legal?
Sounds very much like the new landlord is trying to pull a fast one on you......assuming your contract is for say another 1 year......then the "old" deal stays in place. IF you are referring to the "next term" of the lease ....the landlord can charge whatever he likes OR indeed show you the door! It is always best to have a lawyer look at the lease itself though.

Correct, the landlord would have purchased the flat knowing there was a tenant. Sounds as if the new landlord was hoping you wouldn't know the law. Cheeky b@stard. BTW, make sure you get your deposit sorted out.
