i have a friend who is in the import/export biz in shanghai. he wants to employ me as a "leison" (i know i spelled it wrong). he wants me to attract foriegn importers from US and/or canada. i am sure there is no "catch" and that the biz is lagit. but as far as i understand is he just wants me to "dive right in" and start making contacts and selling his companies products. i just don't know where to begin.
I am also approached by Chinese acquaintances in China who want me to do their overseas sales & marketing. Essentially they want me to do their job -free of charge- and in case I sell their goods I get a cut from the profit. If not, I get nothing.
Needless to say, I am "too busy" to take up their offers.
i didn't say "i don't know how to do it". i am just unfamiliar with this field. back in the US i was involved in direct marketing with companies like "amsoil", "equinox int" & "cutco". this company mostly deals in fabric sales in large quantities. and i too was told i'd be working on comission. but anyhow i was told to "go out and find buyers". its not like my friends and family are going to want or need a ton of rayon, cashmere, silk, tafeda ect...
i do know retailers get their products from another source and that source gets what they need from yet another source and that source will get their stuff from me. but i don't know how to find that source (buyer).
Agree with jwm, not the same. I have a friend in the import/export biz and he said it's difficult to start new. Much of the business is built on relationships and who you know. New commers are not generally welcomed easily
