I have quite severe lymphoedema in one leg as a result of cancer treatment for cervical cancer. In UK you can be given a list of recommended practioners of lymphatic drainage who know what they're doing and offer massage. Has anyone experience of this in HK? lots of spas offer lymphatic drainage but not sure they have any clue medically to the issues...Thx
You should be aware that most Chinese spas offer relatively cheap lymphatic drainage massage but it is not the kind of lymphatic drainage massage you are looking for.It is more like a hard strong massage to get rid of fat with no concern about massaging over veins etc..You need to visit a spa like Fredrique or Ellespa ( can't remmber the exact name) but expect to pay 600hkd upwards. The correct lympahatic drainage massage is very gentle and slow with the therapist doing a slow wave motion with her fingers towards the lymph modes on various parts of the body.
Is it painful? I've had these treatments done at Modern Beauty... VERY painful..... the therapist said, if it hurts, it means I am in MORE need of the treatment. Didn't feel much difference either after the treatments. I stopped after 6 treatments.... VERY VERY painful.
No, the true lymphatic massage is a slow and light touch only and is definitely not painful. I had one of those painful strong massages too but as i have have done a certificate course in lymphatic drainage i knew that it was not the proper massage that i had learnt. To be honest, i only went because it was relatively cheap and know that the real massage is quite costly so i thought i had a bargain but now i know that all the cheap prices you see are for the hard painful massage that you experienced Katetam. The massage that they do is for weightloss only.
Hi Lammum
A friend of mine has lymphoedema in her legs also caused by treatment for cervical cancer.
She goes to Gordana Vignjevic for lymphatic drainage. Gordana practises at Discovey Bay Medical Centre (but I also think she practises at The Holistic Health Care Practice in Central).
My friend highly recommends Gordana for LD.
Hope this helps you.

Sydexpat.Thank you so much. I'll give the Holistic Health Care Practice a call.If it isn't too much to also ask, can you/ your friend give me any recommended websites, reading as I am using govt hospitals and the info given is crap! Trying to find all ways to improve the situation which seems to be worsening and not fnding too much on websites. thanks again
Hi Lammum
My friend, who has lymphoedema, is in the U.S. on holidays until September. If you are still interested, perhaps you might like to get in contact with her directly when she returns to Hong Kong. I know that she has lymphatic drainage treatment and physio on a regular basis (at the Discovery Bay Medical Centre). She also wears special support stockings/pantyhose for her legs (purchased from the US).
In the meantime, I hope you get some relief from LD or physio.
Take care.
Regards Roz
