i have a 4 yo boy that still wears nappy to bed at night.. his nappy seems to be very full every morning and will sometimes need to change in the middle of the night. anyone has got experience with this?? do we need to consult a pediatrician??
do you get the child up in the middle of the night to take him to the toilet?
does he dring a lot before bed?
have you tried taking the nappy away?
what have you done to help the situation?
what toy does he REALLY want? 5 nights with a dry nappy and he gets it. buy special underwear (spiderman etc) only for use at night time. don't want to wet the special underwear.
We haver tried to take nappy off for afternoon naps to try and see if it works but obviously it didnt. but there are occassions that we actually forgot to put nappy on and he wet the bed. we did talk about special treats but he seems to be sleeping so soundly that he didnt even bother waking up..
he sounds like he needs YOU to wake him up to take him. if you make him go before he goes to sleep. then you take him when you go to bed, then set the alarm for say 2 or 3am. then again for 5 or 6am. that should get him through the night.
what time does he go to bed? limit his drinks say 2 hours before bedtime. if he sleeps at 8, then, nothing to drink after 6 or 6:15 or so.
I have always thought that boys are later than girls for night-time toilet training, and that was our experience with our son. My daughter was dry at night at 3 years old and my son still struggled at 6. He is a MUCH deeper sleeper and seems to have a smaller bladder than his sister.
Maybe your son just isn't ready in terms of physical maturity. Certainly, although you can help (cara has good suggestions), you can't push him to be dry. It seems to be one of those things that kids grow into.
My daughter was nearly 8 before she was regularly dry at night. It runs in both of our families.
Some children react to too much fruit juices or dairy. You could try cutting back on both. And no drinks after dinner.
It might help to have your son practice holding his pee during the day...if he needs to go, ask him to wait 10 minutes, even longer after a bit.
Thank you all for the advices. all the childrem are different and i am sure my boy takes after his dad cos he didnt get his nappy off until he was about 6.
