My LO is 16 months old, prone to allergy so i didn't introduce fish when he was younger, i think he's ready now. What kind of fish do you give to your kids? thanks.
Fish is dodgy if its cought in local waters or mainland because it soaks in all the crap and industrial crap in the waters and when you eat it you also get that stuff. I know it's not so recommended for pregnant women or breastfeeding mums to eat fish. So, if you do, make sure its not local one.
That's my opinion and I am sure to get quite a lot of critism for that. I think all common fish from US and area, Australia and area should be good.
Yeah deffo get fish from far away. Philippines, Oz, US... aussieorganics.com has great fish and seafood for example.
As for the fish we serve to our kids:
- Soy and ginger marinated grilled salmon.
- Steamed snapper.
- Home made fish fingers (snapper).
- Scallops sauteed in olive oil with garlic and parsley.
- Fried rice with shrimp.
- Oven baked tilapia with saffron tomato sauce.
We have been feeding our now 13 month old salmon and river cobbler from our local wellcome store. No problems and she loves salmon, which is also very good for baby (omega 3 oil).
oma harrison's repsonse is a bit trange, pregnant and breasfeeding women are actually encouraged to eat lots of fish.
But in response to honeypie's question, my baby loves fish, and has salmon, redsnapper, steamed fish ( i don't know the names of these) and also cod (i think) cooked with garlic and cherry tomatoes.
Correct, pregnant women are supposed to eat plenty of fish - just not LOCAL fish from HK or China waters, due to heavy contamination. My (Chinese) doctor told me this when I found out I was pregnant.
I would definitely not serve my child local fish - I know it looks good, but the dangers are unseen and unlikely to show up health problems until a few years down the track.
