Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMC, chinese: Xiehe) is one of the best public hospitals in Beijing. A lot of foreigners go there. If you look for a gynaecologist, you might want to see Dr. Bian. I personally didn't see Dr. Bian for treatment but only heard great things about her.
She works at Beijing United Family and also at PUMC (for a much lower price).
For a doctors appointment at PUMC you will have to pay 100, 200 or 300 RMB upfront, depending on the experience/ status of the doctor.
The adress: 53 Dongdan BeiDajie, Tel: (010) 6529 5284. You don't have to get an appointment, but need to call to see when she's in.
If you do not speak chinese it might be helpful to bring a chinese speaking friend with you - at least the first time for registration.
But there are nurses who speak english, and the doctors definitely do.
Good luck!

Dr. Ma is a gyno at the Peking Union (Xiehe). I've been to see her a few times during my pregnancy. She speaks English and is extremely pleasant and helpful. It costs 100rmb to get an appointment with her.
Eventually I decided to go to the PK Union and by chance got to see Dr. Ma. It was also the first time I met her. After some simple checks, she said that I was fine and that the bleeding was 2 weeks old. She cleaned me out, listened to the fetal heartbeat and gave me an ultrasound. I didn't have any bleeding afterwards. She also said being on bedrest for 2 weeks did me more harm than good.

I am pregnant in Beijing now. Initially, I went to see Dr Bian at BJU. Then I realised that she's also available in Xiehe where I am seeing her now, instead of BJU. I agree that the BJU is too pricey despite having insurance coverage. Dr Bian told me that Xiehe is actually better equipped than BJU. Of course, the hospital rooms and service in BJU is better, judging from its price. Remember to go straight to the "wai pin bu men" - expat dept in Xiehe if you are an expat. It's on the west side of the hospital. You will not have any language problem there and you get better service there, well, almost. But be prepared for the long wait as usual. Even back in Singapore... Good Luck !

Hi, I'm also pregnant now and do my check up in BJU with another doctor, is Dr Bian good? coz I also heard from the receptionists that Dr. Bian is quite popular. From the message of reaong, I checked Xiehe but they said Dr. Bian is no longer serving there, do you know if it's true. It'd be great if Dr. Bian is still there coz I also think BJU is too pricey for me. Another problem is the bed space at Xiehe are very full, my friend went to check for me, seems everything is full at Jan and Feb and my baby is expected to be delivered in Feb. It'd be great if you have any suggestion to me. Thanks!

Hi
A bit off topic.
I am about to move to Beijing from Hong Kong with a 19 and 5 month old.
Do any of you have kids yet? Any advice/comments/info to share?
Thanks

Hi, any one who knows if Dr Bian is still to be found at BJ Union Hospital? If not, any one who knows about any good and "low priced" fertility clinics in Beijing? Thanks!!!

I posted this reply a while back on another thread:

Try Dr. Liu Jiaen.
He's trained in the US and is reputed to run one of the best private IVF clinics in China. I went to visit him last year and felt very comfortable with his approachable. Fortunately I conceived naturally a couple of months after the visit so didn't need to go through IVF.
He speaks good English, but practically everything about him on the web is in Chinese. Check out his website: www.iccfamily.com
Here are his contact details in Chinese if you can read it. Best of luck!
