Ob-gyn costs in HK
Posted by mvh (184 days ago)
Hello,
Can anybody help me out with ob-gyn costs in HK? I'm just 6 weeks pregnant and have been booked in for my first appointment with Dr Anne Fang (anyone know her?) in Causeway Bay. The booking was made for me by my GP as I'm totally new to the whole baby thing! They quoted me a cost of HK$600 - consultation only. Is this an average price in HK? How much can I expect to pay for ultrasounds and all the other necessary tests? Any information would be great!
Thanks!

you can pay nothing (except a few hundred $ total for all tests/scans) if you go public.
or you can pay $500-2000/visit (+scans + tests) if you go private.

Agree with Cara. I was at private till i was 7+ months and each visit was $480 including U/S, consultation and vitamin and later increased to $520 as the clinic bought a new 3D u/s machine! My OB-GYNE is having clinic at Tsuen Wan and TST. I normally go to Tsuen Wan as it is nearer to my place. Later I found out that I can go public... haha, paying nothing and later, i gave birth at Princess Margaret Hospital, C-section, baby breech and the bill was RM600 in total - cannot imagine as I wanted to give birth at my OB's hospital at Baptist Kowloon - anticipate about HK50-70K. Very satisfied with PMH's service, no regret!

I have been seeing a private Ob/Gyn. I have had four scans (some probs early on) at costs of $1200, $900, $800 and $700 respectively. I don't know how they work out the costs. He has a few 4-D U/S machines and I was on reducing medication. I was also seeing someone else last year who charged only $600 but found her lack of communication of information to be a problem, hence the change.

Hi PDNS,
Your posting was really helpful.
Would you mind giving me the contact details for your clinic (TST location), I am 8 weeks and keen to have a initial checkup without spending a fortune. Is there a particular Dr you would recommend?
mvh - how did your first scan go were you pleased with the Dr you chose?
Thanks so much ladies

Hi Team NZ!
Nice to see another Kiwi online! I'm still seeing Dr Fang in CWB. She's professional, a little motherly, and her English is perfect. Consultation fee is $500, plus scan $700, so around $1200 each month. I decided to deliver at Queen Mary which is a public hospital, and Dr Fang has no objections to this. In fact, she doesn't even mind me getting the blood tests, glucose tests, etc, done publicly! I've heard that some private doctors get a little testy over this...
Hope the info helps.

Hi mvh
Thanks for the info (fellow kiwi :-) Dr Fang sounds good. I am booked for a scan with Dr Wong Kar Mau in Jordan. They seem very friendly and with my beginner Cantonese and their apparent good english fingers crossed we should be ok.
Alternatively frenchfries Dr Chan sounds like a great option.
Have fun with your growing "bump" girls....
