slip disc and pregnancy
Posted by hkgirl2008 (166 days ago)
Hi, Last year I had bad fall and damage L5 disc lower back, diagnose as slip disc lots of back pain and cannot sit long time one position pain moves in to the hip area. I have been going for physcio therapy and acupuncture its almost 3 months only very little improvement. I am very eager to have kids. I am worry that due to this injury I donot know when can fully recover and if I do, when I get pregnant how will I cope with the problem if slip dics and pain reoccurs again.

i suffered terribly during my last pregnancy... i had hip and back pain and ended up in a wheelchair for the last 4 months of an 8 month pregnancy. i would talk to your doctor about it before you get pregnant.
life in a wheelchair is NOT pleasant. hubby and i had more arguments in that 4 months than we have had in almost 10 years!
good luck!

Many, many years ago I had problems with my L4 / L5 and a ruptured disc. I tried everything from accupuncture, naturopaths, physiotherapy, etc. but the only people that could help me were my osteopath and my neurosurgeon specialists. As you know, back pain is extremely painful and I would imagine very difficult to go through with back problems of that nature. I ended up have a back operation and feel much better. I know it's a big thing to do, but it was the only way to relieve my pain. I could not have gone through with my last pregnancy without it, although I do experience back pain occassionally.
Try to get it fixed before going through your pregnancy.
All the best!

just think... if you do get pregnant, you may not have a choice in the matter. some babies need to be delivered via c-section...
the only two operations i've ever had (so far) have been to deliver my beautiful babies. before the first one, i was TERRIFIED. i cried through the entire procedure. i wish that i'd had an operation before so that i knew there was nothing to worry about.
i will probably find out on friday if i'm going to have another operation to try to fix my hips. part of me can't wait to be out of pain, but there is still a part of me that wishes it wasn't necessary.
what is pushing me to have the operation is the hope that i will be back to my old-self. i'll be able to keep up with my kids. not to mention the fact that i'd LOVE another child. however, until my hips are 100% better, i cannot even begin to think about getting pregnant.
good luck!

thank for your comments. I am concern the normally back operation they remove the damadge disc completely and then rejoin the region. but there are side effects that you lose some motion sensation in the body. is that true. I am only 30 years old and having surgery to fix my back is this scaring me. I also time is running out for me to get pregnent.

you are NOT running out of time to get pregnant, you are ONLY 30!
i think that whether or not you have surgery depends on if you think that you can live with this pain FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE or not? I would seriously talk to your doctor, find some alternative sources for more information and then make a decision. when you talk to them MAKE SURE you mention that you want to have a baby and then see what they say.
good uck!
