Does anyone know where I can find a type of tofu- its cut up into circles and it firm. I tried it once but never have been able to find it anywhere! Sometimes they use this restraunts like peking garden, mixed with cucumbers and peanuts.
Check Citysuper which has a selection of fresh tofu for different purposes. Or most supermarkets sell tofu; you can check on ParnnShop's or Wellcome's web site for either beancurd, tofu or to fu.
There are so many different types of tofu, but if the above isn't what you're looking for, ask for "Lao Ba Dou Fu" (grandfather tofu) and see if that might be what you are looking for? Well, that's Mandarin and you need to say it in Cantonese! Anyway, Laoba Doufu is dried, chewy, and in very thin layers like lasagna sheets. It has many uses, but one thing my family enjoys it for (a recipe idea!) is as a substitute for meat in pasta sauces. Some types are spicy, some are sweet, and others are more plain.
