I have HDMI cable running through the wall from where the flat screen is placved to the AV console on the side of the room. Will that run normal DVD signals?
Agreed with mark_palmer. Just as with Bluetooth transmission, the HDMI cable is only an information conduit.
- Needless to say, both the TV and the AV console (this would be a receiver right?) need to have an HDMI port.
- Not all HDMI devices are created equal. They are fitted with various features. For example, my LG TV and my LG receiver have extra features (such as universal power off) that work "within the brand". Most major brands do the same thing.
- While HDMI will support "Full HD" (1920x1080 progressive AKA 1080p) this resolution is currently only supported by Blue Ray and HD DVD. DVD supports up to 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL). That is, your HDMI connection will not magically increase your resolution. So component video cables will work just as well.
In any case, you can probably safely assume that if both devices have HDMI ports, you can at least carry DVD video and audio from the receiver to the TV.
Thanks. All is installed now and works like a charm. It does look better but maybe it is just the freshly rennovated flat. My stuff is all samsumg -- I willl check to see if there is a universal power.
The Samsung HDMI technology is called "Anynet". There should be stuff in the manual about it.
The annoying part about Simplink (LGs equivalent) is that it will turn off the receiver when I power off the TV. But it won't power the receiver back on when I turn the TV on. So I just disabled the whole thing. I want single button picture and sound thank you very much.
