How to compress digital photos

Anyone able to offer some guidance of compressing digital photos?

Have some photos in jpeg format at 3mb, was wanting to compress to under 150kb.

Use : Irfanview.com --- but know this - resizing is a very good "slimming cure" - but that, and Re-resolutioning it will degrade the pix.

Assuming you have XP, you can download the Image Resizer Powertoy from Microsoft. It's unsupported but works just fine. You can find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx.


To use, select the pictures you want and right click, then click "Resize pictures". The "Large" size should do it. It will create the copies in the same directory. As nutsandbolts mentioned, lowering resolution will lower quality.
