Tokyo with kids
Posted by omega (313 days ago)
We are planning a six day trip to Tokyo with two kids (6 and 3). Any suggestions on places to stay, kid-friendly attractions and good restaurants will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Everywhere in Tokyo is child friendly so do not worry... they will just be in awe of it all...
For starters... start at Asakusa temple... the street leading to the temple is full of food and trinket stalls the kids will love... and there is a 1960's Coney island style amusement park in the temple grounds...
Get the river boat taxi down to Odaiba- to the futuristic Fuji-tv building, artificial beach, the ferris wheel. lil HK food mall, 1950's Japan style shopping and food mall, and the statue of liberty...
get the monorail (yurikame line) back to Takeshiba pier and walk up through Zozoji temple and Shiba park to Tokyo Tower (the orange Eiffel Tower replica) watch the sun-set and listen to live jazz and then walk up through Roppongi to Gonpachi (the restuarant that inspired Kill Bill)...
Everywhere you go they will cater to kids... after all Tokyo is the home of anime/manga...
Tokyo Dome has an amusement park... so catch some baseball and another ferris wheel, water ride and amusement park...
Hello Kitty-land is about 30minutes by train in the middle of the Takao mountains... get the cable car half way up (the rest of the walk is paved and easy) and watch the sun-set behind Fuji...
Your options are endless... and the J-folk will love your kids and will help you...
Enjoy...
If you can think of specifics that you want to do then do post again but if not just make it up as you go along...
And don't forget all the game centres located by every train station... you need to collect the print club stickers everywhere...

A couple of years ago, we spent just 3 days in Toyko, with children aged 5 and 2, so some similarities with you. We booked a JTB tour to see Mt. Fuji (we drove halfway up, where the children had snowball fights), Hakone and Lake Ashi (boat trip across the lake and and cable car ride up Mt Komagatake), temples/pagodas and a bullet train journey back to Tokyo. I usually hate bus tours, but this was excellent and there were so many interesting things to do that even the children enjoyed it.
On our 3rd day, we did something for the children by visiting Tokyo Disney Resort, which they of course loved. If you stay in the right hotels in Tokyo, then free buses shuttle you to Disney (not just good because it's free, but also because it's the easiest way to get there). We stayed at the Keio Plaza Hotel, but there are many other pick-up points.
